It boasts a vast array of features that include basic editing and fixing, batch editing, making collages, making gifs using multiple photos, screen capture and splitting photos among other things. Using Photoscape can be a fun experience, whether it is for editing, enhancing or creating something special. As I said, if you are okay with Adobe’s pricing, Lightroom CC will bring everything that can ask from an image management service. The only thing that holds it back for me as a past Google Picasa user is its pricing. Another good feature of Lightroom is the ability to create and share shareable links allowing users to easily share photos with friends, clients, or family. Lightroom also comes with both Android and iOS apps allowing users to access and edit photos even on the go. From brightness to contrast to color correction, all tools come with easy to use sliders which makes Adobe Lightroom CC a good option even for beginners. You get access to all the photo editing tools that you need. When it comes to editing, Adobe Lightroom CC is second to none. This also means that you won’t lose your photos even when your primary machine fails. One of the best things about Adobe Lightroom CC is that all your photos are saved on the cloud so no matter which device you are using, you can get access to all your photos. My favorite feature of Adobe Lightroom CC is its DAM or digital Asset Management library which allows users to import all their images in the program and then categorize and organize them based on their preferences. If you are ready to pay the subscription price, Adobe Lightroom CC will give you all the features that you need right at your fingertips. One feature that makes it stand out is its ability to save the names of the people tagged and geo-tag information directly to the metadata of the file.Īdobe Lightroom CC is probably the best digital image management and editing program on the market right now. Apart from basic editing, you can also add captions, make collages, slideshows, panoramas, photo fuses and movies. Its photo editing features are fairly decent, and it allows easy uploading to OneDrive, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Vimeo. It does not offer you the storage solution that Picasa does, but it works great if you are looking to manage all the pictures on your desktop. It has one of the most straightforward and easy to use layouts you will find on any photo editing app. So, if you are using the Picasa desktop application to manage your photo collection locally, then you may continue doing so after Google ends support for the program and shuts down Picasa Web Albums.Windows Photo Gallery is an application that will make you feel right at home. While Google may keep it up after it shuts it down, you may want to have a backup of it at hand should you require one. I suggest you download Picasa from the official website to have local access to the installer. This won't make a difference for Picasa users who use the photo management software to manage their photos locally only. The majority are local-features only though and they will continue working as they don't depend on the use of online storage or a Google account.įeatures that may stop working eventually include ordering prints, some of the upload features, and some features that require Google account integration. Some features may stop working, especially those linked to Picasa Web Albums. For those who have already downloaded this—or choose to do so before this date—it will continue to work as it does today, but we will not be developing it further, and there will be no future updates. What it does not mean however is that you cannot continue using the Picasa desktop application on your computer system to manage your photos and albums locally.Īs of March 15, 2016, we will no longer be supporting the Picasa desktop application. Retiring means that the company won't support it in any way after Marc 15, 2016. It is unclear however how long this new platform will be kept alive, and likely that Google will terminate it eventually.Īs far as the desktop program is concerned, it too will be retired by Google. Google plans to provide users who don't want to migrate to the company's new Google Photos platform with a read-only version supporting features that Picasa Web Albums supports but Google Photos does not. The latter will be retired on and no longer accessible after that date.
